Gus was one of the greatest guys I was lucky to meet while I was in Scotland. I never forgot him, and I never will.

I grew up with 'Adam' in Tilbury Essex through our school years from 1969 all the way through the 1970's. His family were very bohemian and I loved going round their house, all habitat futuristic furniture, paper globe light shades and always a copy of Penthouse on the coffee table!

Adam's Dad cooked! Sunday dinner was served in the evening (!!) and Les used to serve up really exotic dishes like spaghetti bolognese!

Gus, as I nicknamed him and have no idea why these days, was always into something different. I can remember building rafts, 'abseiling' down the walls of Tilbury fort and camping out in his garden in the middle of February! Another one of his great experiments was growing loads of weed in the conservatory and then giving me a couple Tesco carrier bags worth in our very late teens. I have read many people referring to his intellect, wit and good looks, he had them all in abundance but his modesty also made him someone special.

I'm saddened that I never got to catch up with Gus much after the early 80's but will always fondly remember him as my first best friend.
