The Big Push 2006

Just had a visit from 'A Third Foot' who are currently on Document Magazines Big Push Tour. They have a full band with Cod, Dougy, Woody, Silvestra on filming duties and Smashley on photo's. Each team (Death, Blueprint, East and 3rd Foot) has one Guest skater.

Div is supporting A Third Foot. Amazing.

Word from Silky is that Ricky O is Death's guest rider.....now that's amazing. Look at the bank. 'We love Paul Shier'. Do you? If the answer is yes, then remember that he'll be here with all the rest of them on 1st August.

Wonder how long it takes for Ricky O to punch Cates?

While we are here check out the trailer
of Ricky Oyola's Traffic skateboards. Might make you want to buy one? It should!

I'll get some word from Alex Irvine, who's with Blueprint, about their going's on.

Jammin

Just a note to let you know that 'We Jam Econo' - a documentry about the greatest punk band ever, The Minutemen is now out to buy.

I showed it to Mavie, who is pretty good at jammin econo but he wanted to know where he could BUY a copy....

Support your local record shop and get it from MONORAIL RECORDS if in the West or try Avalanche in the East.

Lots of extra's and live shows.

R I P-ing

The climber, writer and broadcaster Tom Weir has died at the age of 91.
He was a champion of Scotland's wild places and is best known for the long-running STV series Weir's Way, which started in the 1970s.

His wife Rhona, 86, said he died on Thursday afternoon at a nursing home in West Dunbartonshire.

Mr Weir was born in Springburn in Glasgow and was the brother of actress Molly Weir, known for her role in the 1980s children's TV show Rentaghost.

Mr Weir loved the great outdoors from youth and often caught the bus out of town with his mother to explore the Campsie Hills.

After service with the Royal Artillery in World War II, he worked for the Ordnance Survey before becoming a professional climber, writer and photographer.

In 1950 he was a member of the first post-war Himalayan expedition and climbed in Greenland, Iran, Syria and Kurdistan.

But it was the hills of Scotland that made him famous.

He hosted Weir's Way, wearing his trademark woolly hat and Fair Isle jumper, exploring the landscape and history of Scotland and meeting people along the way.

Mrs Weir, a retired headteacher at Gartocharn Primary School, paid tribute to her husband of 47 years.

"He was a great man, my lifelong soulmate and I adored him," she said.

"His health had been failing and in a way this was a release for him because he had lost the power of his legs and couldn't go out and explore the outdoors he loved and lived for.

"Our marriage was a great partnership and it was based on complete trust of one another. I will miss him very much."

Environmentalist Dr Adam Watson was a lifelong friend of Mr Weir's and met him while walking in the Cairngorms in 1947.

He said: "I was 17 when I met him and I was struck by him because he was such a confident all-round mountaineer and also had a great interest in natural history.

"He was a brilliant conversationalist. When he came into a room, he was a small man but he had a great confidence and a great look and people just stood listening to him.

"He had a great knack of speaking to total strangers and putting them at ease."

Mr Weir campaigned for the protection of the Scottish environment and received a John Muir Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000 for his work.

Get your diary's out.

OK folks, we've got a few visitors coming our way over the next month.

Creature Tour around Scotland with the Man Beast and Dad Stew Graham. Should be around the 15th July. As Stew said himself, 'brace yerself'. Cannie wait.

On the 28th july we've got a shop signing and then a BBQ demo at Kelvingrove with Scotlands very own John Rattray, Keegan Sauder, Conhuir Lynn and Rick McCrank. John sent me a message the other night asking if we could organise the weather. I'll get organising.

And then only 3 days later we have a grand old Blueprint tour (1st August). I think it is the whole team so it should be a full melt down at Kelvingrove that evening. We will do another signing with them in the shop- so get your boards, t shirts or tea bags ready for the scrawl of the 'printers.

I suspect that they will all bring FREE product to give to you, so come along and try your luck at 'Celebrity Yahtzee'.
More details on all these dates as we get em.
